At First Blush

When fashion publicist Sahar Sanjar became engaged to Bobby Debjan,

owner of a real estate appraisal firm, her longtime client Elie Saab had something special in mind. “He said, ‘I’m going to make you a dress no one else has ever worn,’” recalls the owner of laChambre PR, who shared her own inspiration with Saab: “my mother’s wedding gown with illusion sleeves from her 1979 wedding in Tehran.” The product of three months of work, the blush-colored dress Saab created features point d’esprit tulle, silk and sequined beadwork, and tulip motifs (florals for the wedding, executed by Sanjar’s mother’s company, The Yellow Vase, included tulips to match). A cascading train, a double veil and a Swarovski beaded headpiece, also designed by Saab, add a dramatic finish to the breathtaking silhouette. “I put it on a mannequin hidden away in my office for a month before the wedding,” Sanjar says. “I’d look at it every now and again and say, ‘I can’t wait to wear you.’” • Molly Creeden.
