“Big Sur is very magical, and it’s a place where we both really feel at ease,” Brynn says. “We wanted our guests to feel all of the love that we put into everything.”

On an impromptu trip to Big Sur to celebrate six years together, Ness Saban, an independent filmmaker, proposed to Brynn Jones, a model and the owner of Hollywood-based vintage clothing boutique Aralda. An almost halfway point between the couple’s home base of Los Angeles and Brynn’s native Portland, Ore., Big Sur presented the perfect setting for playing out their wedding imaginings. “We love to have fun and not take everything too seriously or do things traditionally,” Brynn says. “We turned to paintings as inspiration for our color palettes, and there were also references to a psychedelic take on Dr. Seuss and FernGully to explain the whimsy that we wanted.”

The bride gets ready inside a yurt on the property, pairing her dress with an emerald bracelet, a surprise wedding gift from Ness. ”It was airy, whimsical and very comfortable!” she says of the look.

Planner Yifat Oren of Oren Co was charged with bringing this dreamscape to life on a private cliffside estate. For the ceremony, a simple chuppah hung between two craggy, windswept trees at the edge of the ocean. Brynn came down the grassy aisle in a Monique Lhuillier dress adorned with butterflies and cascading ostrich feathers that she selected just 10 days before the wedding (a custom dress she planned on wearing didn’t pan out).

After the ceremony, guests meandered over to the reception tent that floral design atelier Studio Mondine strung with kaleidoscopic clouds of dyed baby’s breath, asparagus fern and amaranth. The tables were lined with glass-blown candle holders made by Ness’ mother, and colorful, delicate bud vases and centerpieces.

Brynn says the speeches at dinner were a highlight.

The celebration continued across CA-1 with a tiki chic-themed after-party at Ventana Big Sur. “Ness and I went to Disneyland before our wedding and got inspired by the Tiki Room and how wacky it was. We also drew some inspiration from Trader Vic’s,” says Brynn, who changed into a full-length, sequined Norman Norell dress for the reception. The space was decked out with lava lamps, peacock chairs and neon signs with blowfish-shaped lights and lanterns dangling from the ceiling. “After we shut down the dance floor, a group of friends came back to our room and we sat outside,” the bride says. As if the night couldn’t be more enchanted, she adds, “I saw three shooting stars!”

The shared meal took place under colorful floral installations by STUDIO MONDINE.
