Paul Smith tips his hat to androgynous female icons with a new line of women’s tuxedos
In creating his polished Tuxedo Collection, British designer Paul Smith took inspiration from longtime style muses like Patti Smith and Charlotte Rampling, as well as a bespoke tuxedo he tailored for model/actor/editor Małgosia Bela. Finessed in silk, wool and satin, the monochromatic designs include variations of the classic tuxedo jacket as well as a double-breasted opera coat, pussy-bow blouse and Derby shoes. “Now seems a very appropriate time to design a collection with a specific focus on tuxedoes for women,” says Smith, adding it “really felt like a natural evolution from the androgynous women’s designs that Paul Smith is known for.” 8221 Melrose Ave., L.A., 323-951-4800; paulsmith.com.
